After spending last season with the Cowboys, free agent linebacker Kenneth Murray worked out for the NFC East rival Giants on Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
There is no word on whether the Giants plan to sign Murray, but he may land a deal somewhere in the near future. There are other teams interested in the 27-year-old, according to Garafolo.
A six-year veteran, Murray has started in 83 of 90 games since the Chargers drafted him 23rd overall in 2020. The former Oklahoma Sooner exceeded the 100-tackle mark in two of his four seasons with the Chargers, but he did not factor into their long-term plans.
Murray exited Los Angeles to sign a two-year, $15.5MM contract with Tennessee in 2024. While Murray posted 95 tackles, 3.5 sacks and an interception over 14 games (all starts) in the first year of the agreement, the Titans traded him to the Cowboys in a late-round pick swap after the season.
Murray continued as a starter in Dallas, which fielded one of the worst defenses in franchise history. The Cowboys were last in points, 31st against the run and 30th in total yards. Murray, who finished second on the team in defensive snap share (78.86%), contributed 81 tackles, four TFL, three quarterback hits, two passes defensed and a sack in 17 games. In Pro Football Focus’ view, Murray was the league’s third-worst linebacker among 88 qualifiers last season.
While Murray has not lived up to his first-round status in the pros, he has an important Giants connection in defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson. The two were together in 2024 in Tennessee, where Wilson held the same position and guided its defense to a second overall ranking in yards. The two could reunite in New York two years later, though Murray would presumably vie for a backup role. The Giants made noteworthy offseason investments at linebacker, where they added Tremaine Edmunds on a three-year, $36MM deal and took Arvell Reese fifth overall in the draft. The club also re-signed the experienced Micah McFadden, who will earn a guaranteed $2.9MM in 2026.
