Las Vegas Raiders Would Trade Star Player Under One Condition

The Las Vegas Raiders have been receiving several phone calls from teams interested in trading for their players before the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 4. While some teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, have made offers for second-team All-Pro pass-rusher Maxx Crosby, he’s not the only Raiders player teams covet.

Teams that need receiver upgrades have also registered interest in Jakobi Meyers, who requested a trade from the Raiders before their season got underway. Now that the team has sunk to a 2-5 start, Meyers recently reiterated his desire to get traded. Yet, the Raiders still apparently haven’t had much interest in making a deal.

However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, there is one condition where the Raiders would say yes to trading Meyers yet this season.

So, what would “strong value” be for a player of Meyers’ caliber, who’s only under contract for the rest of this season? Since he’s likely to once again command a respectable payday in free agency, the Raiders may believe he’ll already help them net a compensatory pick, which can be as high as the third round. Yet, those picks don’t convey until 2027.

Our speculation? A team would have to present something closer to a fifth or even possibly a fourth-round pick if they really want to pry Meyers out of Vegas. Obviously, teams would be willing to pay more if they thought he’d not only be a strong fit, but also be willing to sign a contract extension with his new team too.

Schefter noted that the Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, and Pittsburgh Steelers “appear to be most aggressively pursuing” a receiver trade.

Though, Schefter also said that the Raiders are “willing to carry him on their roster until his contract expires after this season.” In other words, the Raiders don’t sound very motivated to make a deal.

Yet, considering he’s coming off a career-high 1,027 receiving yards last season, the 28-year-old should have a decent amount of trade value. Meyers ranks second on the Raiders with 329 receiving yards, but he hasn’t scored a touchdown yet.

With just one more game left to play before the NFL trade deadline arrives, Meyers has one final chance to make a strong enough impression to spur an offer too good to refuse.
