I broke down the 2027 scouting classes in my early summer scouting series, and the room has a ton of potential with a long list of potential standout players. I broke down the offense and defense in articles and I suggest reading those for a broad aspect of the room.
These rankings are extremely early, and they will evolve over not only the summer but the next 8-10 months throughout the season, and into draft season. Some lists will feature 10, 15, 20, or more ranked prospects but I’ll include others on the list below to note.
- Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State – 6’3, 225, Jr
- Smith has broken into the notion for 2027 since his freshman season, and he’s not only arguably the top player in the 2027 class but also the best Ohio State WR in the last 5-6 years. Smith has an elite frame, has a career 163 receptions, 2558 yards, and 27 touchdowns. He has an electric release package, explosive release out of cuts, shows an elite ability to go out of his frame, work the boundary, and come down with a ton of high contested catches. Smith’s route running is smooth, fluid, and he has elite hip flexibility to dip and run in his routes. He’ll convert to YAC situations well, and has the elite blue chip WR mentality.
- Cam Coleman, Texas – 6’3, 205, Jr
- Coleman doesn’t get enough credit largely because of Smith. He’s headed to his first year with the Longhorns, and is coming off a 708 yard, 56 reception season for Ole Miss. Coleman is an exceptional athlete, likely better than Smith, his route running is much improved, and he has a tremendous amount of lower body agility. Coleman works well in a ton of concepts, is an electric YAC threat with his start stop ability. Coleman has exceptional deceleration, sinks his hips, and drives on the ball or route concept to make a play on the ball. He pairs that with twitch, physical profile, and a mentality to get the ball through contact. He’ll need to improve the drops, but he’s not far off Jeremiah Smith.
- Charlie Becker, Indiana – 6’4, 208, R-So
- A breakout end to 2025 put Becker on the map, and he’s among the best pure athletes at the position. Becker was arguably the best, or second best receiver on the Hoosiers last year, and he shows an elite ability to explode off the line of scrimmage, runs fluid routes, and he controls his body well. Becker is by far the best contested catch receiver in the class, he’s shown a tremendous ability to go up and get the ball, tracks it well though the air, and his concentration through traffic is exceptional. Becker has smooth feet, quick hips, and he’s an advanced route runner. YAC is a strong point, as is his ability to transition throughout concepts, drive on the ball, and he’s also shown a diverse route tree. Becker...
