In 2024, Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers had the most productive season yet of his six-year NFL career. Meyers hauled in 87 passes for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns despite a dire quarterback and head coaching situation.

This year, Meyers figures to top those numbers if he remains healthy. He’s the Raiders’ number one receiver target outside of tight end Brock Bowers. Las Vegas brought in a proven head coach in Pete Carroll, and a two-time Pro Bowl QB in Geno Smith.

All of that amounts to Meyers likely being one of the top receivers in the AFC, if not the entire NFL. And the 28-year-old wants to be paid that way.

Jakobi Meyers Uncertain About Future With Las Vegas Raiders Amid Contract Talks

After failing to agree to a new deal in the offseason, Meyers requested a trade in training camp. That trade never came, and now he’s expected to suit up for the Raiders on Sunday against the New England Patriots.

But he doesn’t sound all that thrilled about the situation!

“We’ll see where the chips fall,” Meyers said when asked about his long-term future with the team.

“I feel like I earned it,” he continued, alluding to a new deal. “I was kinda hoping it would get done. I feel like I proved enough, like I deserve to be here. I thought they would see it that way. They don’t, which I’m not trippin’. It is what it is. I’ll do it again.”

Meyers isn’t changing his stance. He wants more security than the one year and $10.5M he has remaining on his current deal. But he’s also open to negotiating throughout the season.

“During the season. Yesterday. Today. You name it, honestly. It’s gotta make sense for me,” Meyers said. “They’re looking at me, seeing if they want me here. I’m looking at them to see if I wanna be around them. We’re all kinda doing the same thing, and we’re gonna see how it plays out.”

For Las Vegas, it makes plenty of sense to see if he can back up or improve upon his 2024 season. For Meyers, meanwhile, it’s an opportunity to have an even bigger year before hitting free agency next offseason, which could lead to a big payday on the open market.
