Kyren Lacy’s lawyer is Matthew Ory, and he is hurting just as much as his family and friends over his tragic loss.
The sports world and our local Louisiana community continue to mourn the devastating loss of the former LSU wide receiver, whose death has left many friends, family members, and fans dealing with grief, questions, and heartache.
The 24-year-old passed away in Houston from what authorities have ruled a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a police pursuit. According to KHOU, Deputies with Harris County Precinct 4 responded to a call from a family member who reported an argument during which Lacy allegedly fired a weapon into the ground.
Things only got worse as cops found him, but instead of pulling over, he fled and led officers on a chase that ended in a crash. Deputies found Lacy fatally wounded inside his vehicle, and no other gunfire was reported at the scene.
A ceremony was held in Kyren Lacy’s honor, attended by Malik Nabers and Jayden Daniels, who were teammates of the receivers at LSU.
His lawyer, Matthew Ory, was among the people to speak at the ceremony.
He stepped forward and boldly promised that if Lacy held on for one more day, he would have cleared his name.
“I needed Kyren to hold on for 1 day. God needed him sooner,” he said.
“I can promise you this, he always asked, ‘Mr. Matt, you got me, dawg?’ Kyren, I promise you, I got you, dawg,” he finished.

Kyren Lacy was facing an uphill battle for his freedom.
He had been facing felony charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle charges stemming from a fatal car crash in December.
Lacy was arrested following a December 17 crash that claimed the life of 78-year-old Herman Hall.
Two days later, Lacy declared for the NFL Draft, only to become the subject of an arrest warrant in Louisiana over the incident.
His case was set to be heard by a grand jury on April 14, which was less than 48 hours after he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
