Kylie Kelce has singled out the common term associated with partners of professional athletes that she hates being called.
Kylie, the wife of former Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Jason Kelce, has become a celebrity of sorts and now has a very popular podcast of her own. As a couple, they have their own group of fans, yet Kylie is unwilling to accept a certain label, although it comes with the territory.
Speaking on the most recent episode of ‘Call Her Daddy,’ the 32-year-old disclosed that she isn’t a fan of the term WAG, which is an acronym for “wives and girlfriends” and typically assigned to – you guessed it – the wives and girlfriends of athletes.
“I think that it’s this suggestion that your spouse’s profession swallows you up as well,” she said.
Kylie claimed she tried her best to separate herself from what her husband did while he was an active player.
“I have made a serious effort to make sure that … both Jason and I have made a serious effort to make sure that while he was playing, that it was clear that that was his job,” she added.
“In the same way that someone would go to work and come home and not necessarily talk about their entire day. You’re filing taxes. You’re doing spreadsheets. Like, you’re not coming home and telling your spouse about, like, the spreadsheet you worked out.”
Kylie went on to explain that the phrase suggests that a woman is only with an athlete because of the financial security and luxurious lifestyle he can facilitate.
She said the modest lifestyle she and Jason live often comes as a shock to some people, given the expectations.
“The vast majority, it’s so funny to me because it’s like, it is that stigma of, you’re with them because they make a lot of money or, you want designer bags or you want … you live in a mansion,” Kelce added.
“There have been a number of people who have come to our house and they’re like, ‘Oh.’ I’m like again, not easily offended. I’m like, ‘Yep, that’s what you get.'”
Jason Kelce made over $81 million in his 13 years with the Eagles and reportedly makes $8 million a year as an analyst with ESPN, while he and his brother Travis secured a $100 million deal from Amazon’s Wondery for their ‘New Heights’ podcast.
