Kliff Kingsbury talked to the media before Thursday’s practice. He was asked about Jayden Daniels’ development this season, and how it has been affected by his injuries, and injuries to other starters on offense. The team hasn’t been able to get into a rhythm due to the amount of injuries not allowing consistency in practice and games. He called this a unique year, as the team tried to play to their strengths from last season, but they were limited by several factors.
Kliff Kingsbury regrets a lot of things about the Commanders’ 31-0 loss to the Vikings last week. “Scoring zero points shouldn’t happen in the NFL”. There were questions about his play calling on Washington’s opening drive. They got the ball to the two-yard line, but only ran it on 1st down. They threw the ball from shotgun three times and turned the ball over on downs after Deebo Samuel failed to secure a pass in the back of the end zone. “There’s 30 plays in that game I wish I’d called something differently. … There weren’t a lot of great play calls in that game. And like I said, that’s on me and I’ve got to get better.”
Zach Ertz suffered a torn ACL when he went up for a pass, but was taken out at the knee and flipped. Ben Sinnott and Colson Yankoff will need to step up for the final four games in his absence, and Kingsbury thinks they’re prepared for the challenge. “With a guy like Zach, you don’t take him off the field in critical situations. So they’re going to get their opportunity in some of those situations, and I’m sure they’re up to the challenge.”
