Kid Rock has floated a conspiracy theory on the back of Kendrick Lamar’s performance at the Super Bowl halftime show last Sunday, which involves former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
Lamar’s outing prompted mixed reactions, with some branding it the worst show ever while others loved it.
Kid Rock probably falls in the former category, having revealed it wasn’t his “cup of tea” during an appearance on ‘Real Talk with Bill Maher.’
While the performance didn’t move the needle as far as the 54-year-old is concerned, he claimed to respect it because he understands rap culture more than most “white people” (his words, not ours).
The veteran rapper also floated a theory suggesting that Colin Kaepernick played a role in Lamar getting to headline the halftime show as he urged him and Jay-Z to thank the quarterback.
“I’ve heard nobody answer this question: how did he get that gig? Jay-Z. What happened there? I think Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar should both send Colin Kaepernick a Bundt cake and a six-pack of beer and a ‘thank you’ note with a bunch of money in it, because without him kneeling and getting everyone’s panties in a bunch over the anthem, self-included, I don’t think that happens,” he said.
There was some concern over Jay-Z’s Roc Nation taking charge of the halftime show after the NFL reached a deal with the company in 2019, chiefly due to Jay’s support for Kaepernick following his protest before games.
The league appears to be very satisfied with the partnership and extended the deal late last year.
It would be difficult to blame them as this year’s halftime show was the most-watched in history.
