INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. went down with an injury in the third quarter of Sunday night’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Porter limped off the field and went into the blue medical tent to get further evaluated.
With Porter injured, Chuck Clark went to safety and Ramsey replaced Porter at cornerback. Porter returned on the following series.
Porter was the second cornerback to suffer an injury in Sunday night’s game. Darius Slay sustained a concussion in the first half and is out for the remainder of the game.
Slay got injured on a friendly fire incident when making a tackle on Chargers running back Kimani Vidal. Duggar and Ramsey collided into Slay’s helmet.
Slay went out of the blue medical tent and walked to the Steelers locker room with the NFL red-hat independent neurological consultant.
Pierre replaced Slay at the left cornerback position. Pierre made an instant impact by slamming Chargers wide receiver Derius Davis.
Along with an interception, Porter recorded his first career sack in last Sunday’s win over the Indianapolis Colts.
Porter nearly had another interception on Sunday night, but he failed to secure an ill-advised pass by Justin Herbert.
The Steelers selected Porter with the No. 32 pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. Including the matchup with the Chargers, he’s started 33 games in his career.
