The Browns head coach appeared on the team’s new podcast and gave an authentic glimpse of the offensive plan for the future

The Cleveland Browns are putting the final touches on their coaching staff for 2025 as new coaches are entering coupled with a few departures. Fresh off of introducing Tommy Rees as the team’s new offensive coordinator, head coach Kevin Stefanski sat down with Andrew Siciliano for an interview on the latest episode of the team’s Bark Tank podcast.

Stefanski has earned quite the reputation for not giving too much away during his media appearances but this felt a bit more open and telling. Much of the conversation centered around Rees and what the offense will look like moving forward.

When asked about the offense, Stefanski said, “We have a lot of work to do. Tommy, myself, this offensive staff, in putting back an offense that we feel really good about.”

Perhaps the most revealing comments came when Siciliano followed up by asking if we can expect the offense to get back to what made it successful over his first four seasons. Stefanski answered, “We never want to just go backward, we want to go forward. This isn’t where we just plop a playbook down on the desk and say dust this off. We want to be forward-thinking in everything we do.”

Okay, now that blows up the narrative that the team just wants to go back to the wide-zone ‘Kubiak’ offense that Stefanski found his initial success with. Many assumed that it would be a return after the Browns scored the lowest amount of points in the entire league last season after overhauling the scheme under Ken Dorsey.

Stefanski went on to say, “Obviously, you add Mike Bloomgren with Tommy’s thoughts, there are certain things we believe in as coaches. This game is changing. There are so many things that other teams around the league are doing that we feel fits us and some of it we haven’t done in the past.”

Stefanski had piqued my curiosity but those last statements commanded my full attention and quite frankly, it’s music to my ears as I want to see innovation. We all hoped we were getting that last year but ultimately found ourselves watching ineptness on most Sundays throughout the season.

Stefanski wrapped up by stating, “This is the Cleveland Browns offense for the year 2025. Here are the things we’re doing because it fits our players.” This was also comforting to hear as any great offense is more about curtailing the scheme to your player’s strengths.

What do you make of Stefanski’s comments? Do you think the offense will be more innovative than last year or look more similar to what we have seen in the past? Let us know in the comments below.
