Another professional athlete has had their home broken into by burglars and had valuable items stolen. And once again it occurred while the player was away playing in a game. This time the victim was Arizona Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte.
Marte was away from his home in Scottsdale, Arizona last week for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game when he learned that someone broke into his home and stolen over $400,000 worth of items. “Not good to know you lose around $400,000, but you just gotta move on,” Marte said through a translator after his team’s 5-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Ketel Marte said he had over $400,000 worth of items stolen from his home.
He said he found out about the situation when he was playing in the All-Star Game.

According to the Associated Press, the robbery is believed to have occurred last Tuesday night while Ketel Marte was playing for the National League team in Atlanta. Police reported that there were signs of forced entry. No one was at home at the time of the robbery.
In related news, on Friday, the owner of a Manhattan pawn shop, 43-year-old Dimitriy Nezhinskiy, pleaded guilty to conspiring to receive stolen property transported in interstate commerce. Some of the stolen property that he bought and sold belonged to Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. Burrow had his home burglarized in December while playing in a game against the Cowboys in Dallas.
“The defendant’s criminal conduct, purchasing items stolen from homes and businesses nationwide, provided a vital market for South American Theft Groups and other criminals to sell the proceeds of their crimes,” United States Attorney Nocella said in a press release. “Our Office and our law enforcement partners are dedicated to ensuring that those who facilitate the victimization of people and businesses are brought to justice.”
Earlier this month, WWE stars Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch had their Southern California home burglarized while they were away performing their jobs. They joined Burrow, NFL players Linval Joseph, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, NBA players Luka Doncic, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mike Conley and Bobby Portis, and NHL player Tyler Seguin, as athletes who have had their homes broken into and items stolen while they were away from home for their jobs.
In February of this year, the FBI announced that it had created a “coordinated operation spanning multiple jurisdictions to investigate burglaries that targeted the homes of several professional athletes.”
