Life in the NFL hasn’t exactly gone according to plan for poor Kenny Pickett. After being selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pickett now finds himself on his third team in four seasons and is firmly entrenched as a career backup. But perhaps we should’ve seen this coming. After all, all the talk prior to the 2022 draft was about how Pickett couldn’t possibly succeed due to his unusually tiny hands. While that talk eventually died down, it has now resurfaced thanks to the juxtaposition of Pickett next to new Cleveland Browns teammate Joe Flacco.
Cleveland acquired Pickett for a fifth-round pick and QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in March. Flacco, meanwhile, signed one month later in free agency. The two are expected to compete for the starting job in a wide-open Cleveland quarterback room. But the Browns did little to help the fan perception of Pickett with a social media post on Wednesday.

The post on X showed pictures of both Pickett and Flacco dropping back to pass at OTAs. Placed alongside one another, it was extremely evident how much smaller Pickett’s hands are than Flacco’s. While Pickett’s hands measured 8.5 inches as the combine, Flacco’s are more than a full inch larger at 9.63. And fans took notice.

“The gloves aren’t doing Pickett’s hands any favors,” one fan replied.
“Bro, look at Pickett’s hand over the laces compared to Flacco’s. Dude’s hand is half his size lol,” another said.
Ultimately, hand size has been the least of Pickett’s issues in the NFL. He has seven fumbles in 30 career appearances. Which isn’t great, but could be worse! However, Pickett has just 15 touchdowns to 14 interceptions in his career and his 6.3 yards per attempt are well below league average.
Maybe Pickett turns things around in Cleveland. He’d be, perhaps, the first player to ever do so. But even if he does, you can imagine the small hands jokes won’t stop anytime soon.
