After spending his first nine NFL seasons with the Colts, slot cornerback Kenny Moore requested a trade in early April. Unable to find a taker, the Colts released Moore in the first week of May. The 30-year-old has sat in free agency since then, but he wants to sign with a contender and continue his career.

“I’m at the perfect point in my career where I really want to win, and hopefully that comes with a team that has the culture, the scheme set up for me,” Moore told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Thursday.

Moore entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Patriots in 2017, but he was unable to crack their roster as a rookie. The Colts made what proved to be a shrewd move when they claimed Moore off waivers. He turned into a mainstay in Indianapolis, where he started in 111 of 132 games, deflected 68 passes and pulled in 21 interceptions.

Moore tied career highs in PDs (13) and INTs (four) in 2021, his lone Pro Bowl season. Three years later, he temporarily became the league’s highest-paid slot corner on a three-year, $30MM contract. He had a nonguaranteed $9.49MM left on the deal when the Colts released him.

Despite Moore’s contributions, the Colts didn’t do a lot of winning when he was on their roster. They made just two trips to the playoffs, none since 2020, and finished under .500 five times. While winning is a motivating factor for most players, it’s not a surprise it tops the list for a 30-something who has been stuck on a lot of mediocre or bad teams.

It is unknown whether any playoff-caliber clubs are interested in Moore, but he is likely on some teams’ radars after he continued to perform like a capable regular in 2025. Although an Achilles injury limited the 5-foot-9, 190-pounder to 14 games, he still finished second among Colts corners in defensive snap share (61.48%). Moore held opposing quarterbacks to a modest 87.0 passer rating on 71 targets and recorded 55 tackles, six PDs, a career-best two forced fumbles, 1.5 sacks and a pick. He ended the season as Pro Football Focus’ 37th-ranked corner among 112 qualifiers.

As Moore continues searching for his next team, it should help his cause that he is by far the most established slot corner left on the open market. Other accomplished free agents like Marshon Lattimore, Trevon Diggs, Tre’Davious White and Rasul Douglas have operated as boundary corners throughout their careers.
