The New Orleans Saints introduced Kellen Moore as the franchise’s next head coach on Thursday in an introductory press conference. Or was it, Ellen Moore?
Owner Gayle Benson botched the coach’s introduction with the team before Moore took to the podium. When he later did address the fanbase, he sparked immediate questions about the future.
Kellen Moore comes to New Orleans fresh off a Super Bowl title with the Philadelphia Eagles. As offensive coordinator, he guided a unit that ranked seventh in the NFL in scoring.
He capped his time in the City of Brotherly Love with an impressive showing against the Chiefs. His team racked up 40 points in a blowout win. Now, he takes the next step in his coaching journey.
He held his first press conference as a head coach on Thursday in the Big Easy. It didn’t get off to the best start!

Ownership slipped up in his introduction. Hopefully it’s not a sign of things to come.
Speaking on the future, Moore immediately made waves with his outlook on the quarterback position. There could already be a QB controversy in New Orleans.

While he did commend the starting passer for his accomplishments on the field, he wouldn’t confirm that Carr would lead the offense in 2025. He remained vague in his response about the team’s future under center.
Moore’s expertise is at the QB position, and he and Carr have history. They faced off in college as players in the Mountain West Conference. Moore won their only head-to-head matchup in dominant fashion, 57-7.
That being said, it’s Carr whose playing career has persevered. He’s gearing up for Year 12 in the NFL. Whether or not that comes as the starting quarterback of the New Orleans Saints is now unclear.
The team has options looking ahead to 2025. They drafted Spencer Rattler last April, who saw immediate action as a rookie.
In his six starts, the Saints went 0-6. He threw for 1,317 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions. Still, many believe he can be the future of the franchise should he continue to progress.
Derek Carr has two years remaining on his current contract. He’ll be 34 years old when the season starts. The Saints will have to make a decision on the passer soon. Kellen Moore did little to clarify his stance in his debut.
