The Kansas City Chiefs have already been hit with some tough injury luck, with standout safety Deon Bush likely out for the entire 2025 season.
Deon Bush was carted off the field in the second quarter of Saturday’s preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals after suffering a non-contact injury. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for Bush and the Chiefs to get the worst case scenario.
Per ESPN’s Nate Taylor, Bush tore his left Achilles tendon and will likely miss the entire 2025 campaign. Head coach Andy Reid was heartbroken speaking to reporters after the game that Bush will require surgery.
“Deon was having a good [training] camp, too,” Reid said. “He’s got to have surgery on it. It’s too bad because he’s been playing really well. He’s a good kid.”

Bush had one tackle before suffering the injury. The Cardinals went on to win 20-17, with both teams primarily playing their second and third-stringers. Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw a one-yard touchdown to Jason Brownlee on his only pass attempt.
The 31-year-old Deon Bush joined the Chiefs in 2022 after spending his first six seasons with the Chicago Bears. He played a big role in Kansas City’s back-to-back Super Bowl championship winning seasons, making a clutch interception off Lamar Jackson in the 2023 AFC Championship Game to help Kansas City seal the deal against the Baltimore Ravens.
With Bush out for the season, the Chiefs will need to sign or trade for another veteran safety.
