Kansas City Chiefs Interested in 2x Super Bowl Champion Coach

The Kansas City Chiefs are in the same boat as 28 of the 32 NFL teams sitting at home, watching the playoffs. It’s an unfamiliar position for Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, who have reached the AFC Conference Championship in seven of the past eight seasons.

However, with the Chiefs sitting at home, it doesn’t mean there won’t be changes to Reid’s coaching staff. In fact, they could be set to lose a key member to a promotion elsewhere.

With Matt Nagy under consideration to fill one of the eight current NFL head coaching vacancies, the Chiefs may soon need to find a new offensive coordinator. While Nagy has yet to be hired anywhere, Kansas City may know something the rest of the world doesn’t, because they’re already lining up a potential replacement.

According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs have requested permission from the Chicago Bears to interview Eric Bieniemy, who’s currently operating as Ben Johnson’s running backs coach.

Of course, the two-time Super Bowl winner is an extremely familiar coach in Kansas City, having spent ten seasons there from 2013 to 2022, including those last five years as their offensive coordinator. He’s since bounced around from the Washington Commanders, to UCLA, and most recently the Bears.

While the Bears are coming off a strong season that saw them reach the NFC Divisional Round playoffs for the first time since 2010, Bieniemy would be receiving a promotion to head back to Kansas City and reunite with Patrick Mahomes. That’s an enticing opportunity for any coach.
