It is not looking good for Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes sustained a left knee injury in the Kansas City Chiefs’ 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. He departed from the game with 1:53 remaining. The injury occurred while Mahomes was rolling out toward the sideline and throwing the ball downfield.
A Chargers defender pulled him to the ground during his throw. His leg bent awkwardly as he lost his footing. He wouldn’t get up right away. Mahomes remained down on the field for multiple minutes. Trainers examined his leg.
He was in clear discomfort as he removed his helmet. He would then rise to his feet and walk into the medical tent. The star quarterback was then helped up the tunnel and into the locker room.
Following the game, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had bad news. He announced Patrick Mahomes will have an MRI to determine the severity of his knee injury.
Reid says it “doesn’t look good.” They said extreme caution will be used with the team eliminated from playoff contention.

The Chiefs trailed, 16-13, when Patrick Mahomes left the contest. He completed 16 of 28 passes for 189 yards without a touchdown. The star quarterback also had one interception and was sacked five times.
The 10-year playoff streak they had was the second-longest in NFL history. They will now watch the playoffs from home for the first time since 2014.
