Bolts From The Blue Bolts From The Blue

In a recent article from CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan, the NFL analyst went about ranking all 10 of the NFL’s remaining undefeated teams. With only two games under everyone’s belts, those seen as contenders this early could see a vast change in that narrative as soon as several weeks from now. At the same time, some of the teams with a 2-0 record have accomplished that while facing one or more other presumed contenders, as well, further solidifying the preseason hype.

When it comes to the Chargers, Sullivan ranked them fourth among the 10 undefeated squads, behind only the Bills (first), Eagles (second), and Packers (third). As for the remaining six teams, they were (in descending order): the Rams, Buccaneers, 49ers, Cardinals, Colts, and Bengals.

Here’s what Sullivan had to say about the Bolts and why they rank in the upper half of the group:

“We’re watching Justin Herbert level up right before our eyes. Through two games, Herbert is second in passer rating (127.8), tied for second in passing touchdowns (5), and has yet to throw an interception. He outdueled Patrick Mahomes in the opener and was hyperefficient in the win over Las Vegas on Monday night, notching two key AFC West wins. With Herbert thrusting himself into the MVP conversation and the defense flying around the field, the Chargers are live to win the division.”

Herbert and the Chargers haven’t been perfect, but they have certainly seemed to have found their recipe for success on offense. Without a run game, they’ve managed to lean into an efficient passing attack that takes the lead. Despite rushing for less than 100 combined yards against the Raiders, Najee Harris earned some chunk yardage in the final minutes to help them seal the victory.

Both Harris and Omarion Hampton are sure to see better stat lines going forward, but even when they don’t, they still manage to come up crucial yardage when needed. That, combined with a stellar defense, has the Chargers in the driver’s seat of their 2025 season with 16 weeks to go in the regular season.

It’s not often that Chargers fans can say something like that!
