Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields will start on Sunday for the New York Jets–keeping their comp pick on track.

Though the Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for their week eight battle against the Green Bay Packers, they are also likely monitoring their compensatory pick projections. On Saturday, it was reported that Justin Fields would start after a tough week.

Jets QB Tyrod Taylor has been ruled out of Sunday’s game due to the bone bruise on his knee, as @BrianCoz reported.

It looked like Tyrod Taylor would be taking over this week. However, he suffered an injury to his knee and is now out for this week.

Fields, who was assigned in the off-season by the New York Jets, was openly bashed by his team‘s owner. Among criticisms, Woody Johnson criticized the quarterback play of Fields.

It has been a disappointing investment for New York thus far. After playing arguably his best football in Pittsburgh—posting a 4-2 record as a starter in 2024—Fields signed a two-year, $40M deal with the Jets.

It looked like a great move after the first week. The Jets were narrowly defeated by the Steelers but put up 32 points. Since then, they have averaged 14 points a game when Fields has started.

Pittsburgh is currently in a position to get a fourth-round pick as it stands due to Field’s departure in the off-season. However, if he meets certain incentives, that pick could become another compensatory third-round.

Those incentives involve play time; however, he would also have to receive league awards and postseason success. Currently, Pittsburgh is hoping to secure a fourth-round pick at the very least.
