New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields had an interesting answer when asked what he meant by saying he didn’t think a lot of people expected the Jets “to come out like that” against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
The Jets offense put up 32 points but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Steelers.
“I’m just calling it what it is. They acquired all these guys in the offseason, future Hall of Famers on that side of the ball, and we put up 32,” Fields said. “We have to keep getting better.”

The Jets did not punt in the first half against the Steelers — the first time that’s happened in a game since at least 1991, according to the Jets public relations department.
The Jets scored via a field goal, touchdown, touchdown and field goal on four of their five possessions in the first half. The last possession was just three plays to end the half.
The Jets finished with 394 yards of offense, 182 in the run game. Fields completed 16 of 22 passes (72.7%) for 218 yards with one touchdown, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 119.1. Fields also rushed for 48 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns.
“He commanded the offense,” Jets running back Breece Hall said of Fields. “It’s always cool to have a guy that’s even keeled.”
Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson also gave his quarterback high praise.
“That boys a dawg,” Wilson said. “That’s the man I know. He come out and put everything on the field every play. He don’t give up on any play, he don’t give up on anything, and I know stuff like that is inspiring to the dudes on the field with him and to the dudes watching. It felt good to be back out there with Justin, and just to know that he’s got my back and I’ve got his, and that’s the mentality, the mindset, the relationship that we’re gonna take into every week.”
The Jets are not into moral victories, but Fields definitely turned heads in Week 1 against a Steelers defense filled with stars.
“I will say this, there’s going to be no confidence lost from these guys. These guys have been busting their butts for a long time,” Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said.
