The New England Patriots have a football game to play on Sunday, but on Saturday, they will be inducting two legendary figures, head coach Bill Parcells and wide receiver Julian Edelman, into their Hall of Fame.
It’s a great honor for both Parcells and Edelman, and there will surely be a great turnout for the ceremony on Saturday. But first, both guys have to make sure that their new red jackets actually fit.
Edelman was in the building on Friday night in preparation for the ceremony, and it’s clear that he takes this honor quite seriously. When discussing his impending induction into the Patriots Hall of Fame, Edelman issued a quick, strong message.
“This is an unbelievable, surreal moment for me,” Edelman said as he tried on his jacket for the first time.
A seventh-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Edelman transitioned from quarterback to wide receiver upon his entry to the league, and he eventually became Tom Brady’s favorite target in the passing game.
From 2013 to 2019 (minus the 2017 season, which he missed entirely due to a torn ACL), Edelman was one of the most effective pass catchers in the league, racking up 530 receptions for 5,793 yards and 32 touchdowns.
Most importantly, Edelman played a huge role in helping the Patriots win their three most recent Super Bowl championships. The cherry on top was the Super Bowl LIII MVP Award, which Edelman earned after he torched the Los Angeles Rams for 141 yards on 10 receptions in the Patriots’ 13-3 victory.
Edelman’s place in the franchise’s history has long been secure, but getting selected to the Patriots Hall of Fame is big honor. The induction ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, which fans can stream live on the Patriots’ digital and social platforms.
