The New England Patriots are on a five-game win streak, and the main reason for their success has been the play of their offense. While the players obviously have to go out and perform, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is continually finding ways to put his guys in the best spots possible.
Once Mike Vrabel was hired as the Patriots’ head coach over the offseason, he quickly brought McDaniels back to town for his third stint as the team’s offensive coordinator. After his time with the Las Vegas Raiders as their head coach went up in flames, there was some skepticism about the decision to hire McDaniels.
Instead, McDaniels has come in and helped the Pats’ offense take a major step forward this season. Second-year quarterback Drake Maye looks more and more comfortable in McDaniels’ system every week, and the supporting cast around him has continued to step up and make big plays.
With the wins stacking up, McDaniels has begun receiving his fair share of praise for his role in the team’s turnaround. After spending a year out of football, it’s clear McDaniels was grateful for the opportunity to return to New England, which led to him dropping a strong message recently.
“I love this. I love football. I love coaching here,” McDaniels simply said to reporters on Thursday.
The reunion between McDaniels and the Patriots has gone swimmingly to this point, but there is still a lot of work to be done moving forward. That starts with earning another win in Week 9 when New England welcomes the Atlanta Falcons to town on Sunday afternoon.
