The New England Patriots have been one of the better success stories across the NFL through six games. While second-year quarterback Drake Maye has received his fair share of praise, offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels made it a goal of his to shine the spotlight on the wide receiver room recently.

In 2024, the Pats did not have enough wide receivers to support Maye as he attempted to make the transition from college to the pros. And yet, he still managed to find a way to string together encouraging performance after encouraging performance.

It wasn’t necessarily the flashiest offseason when it comes to upgrades at wide receiver, as the team signed Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins in free agency before selecting Kyle Williams in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. And yet, these guys are already making a world of difference for Maye and the offense.

Diggs and Hollins have quickly gotten on the same page as Maye, while also working on helping holdovers Kayshon Boutte and Demario Douglas develop. It’s been a pleasant surprise to see this sort of production, and McDaniels recently opened up on what he’s liked so far from this group.

“There’s a lot, starting with the attitude and the way they work,” McDaniels said, per Mike Kadlick of CLNS. “Very unselfish … these guys have really embraced whatever their role is.”

With guys consistently getting open for him downfield, Maye has taken his game to another level, and that’s a big reason why New England is 4-2 heading into Week 7. The offense will look to keep up the positive momentum when it squares off against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon.
