Josh Allen was named as MVP of the NFL on Thursday night. If a new story about last offseason is any indication, he will probably celebrate with a round of golf— or four…
The starting quarterback for the Buffalo Bills is a big dimplehead.
Allen joined Casey Bannon, brand manager at The Golfer’s Journal, in Georgia last March for a jam-packed weekend of golf at some of the nicest resorts in the United States. They began at Sea Island.
The private club is located on the easternmost point of the Peach State, about an hour north of Jacksonville. It is only open to members and guests. Allen is the latter. He and Bannon arrived to play 18 holes on one of the three championship courses at Sea Island in the morning.
Immediately after they finished the first round, Allen rushed over to the nearest UPS Store to handle some business. The Bills presented their 28-year-old quarterback with a restructured contract that opened up $16.7 million in cap space. He, while on vacation, needed to sign and return the contract to Buffalo prior to the start of the new league year.
With that minor little detail out of the way, Allen drove back over to Sea Island to play another 18 holes with Bannon in the afternoon. That in itself was a full day.
Most people would call it quits after 36 holes. Not Allen. He took advantage of the private range at the King Cottage and hit balls until 1:00 a.m.
Six hours later, Allen was back on the range at 7:00 a.m. but his driver didn’t feel right. Bannon heard him say that it was “too spinny” so he ran over to the performance center for a driver fitting at 8:00 a.m.
As soon as that was done, Allen got back in the car to go play at Ohoopee Match Club — another top-100 course about two hours away. He finished his day with two additional rounds of golf.
And to make his 48-hour, 72-hole adventure even better, Bannon says Josh Allen was a class act the entire time. At no point did he make the conversation about himself or football. All of the staff was tipped nicely.
