The Buffalo Bills QB recently married Hailey Steinfeld and he’s wearing some new hardware on the field

Obviously you know that Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen married his wife Hailey Steinfeld earlier this month. After taking a week off of OTAs to celebrate, he was back on the field at One Bills Drive Tuesday for mandatory minicamp sporting his wedding band on the field.

“We’re back to football,” Allen said Tuesday, before pointing to his ring finger. “Got some hardware now. So, good to go.”

Allen has famously been tight-lipped about his relationships off the field in an attempt to keep as much privacy as he can. It’s difficult, and pictures of the wedding were posted relatively soon after the ceremony.

But Allen knows how to play the game, so after some gentle pushback form the media, he gave just enough to get past the line of questioning. He’s had a busy offseason from winning the MVP to signing the richest contract in NFL history and now getting married. He seems to rank them in the right order.

“They’ve all been big, none other than marrying my best friend. She makes everything easier. That was the most important decision I’ll make in my life and I made the right one,” Allen said.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott confirmed to reporters he was in attendance at the wedding, but didn’t provide the inside scoop.

“What I’ve seen is this truly genuine, authentic person who, yes, is in the limelight, yes, is one of the top players in our league, and maybe the top player in the NFL,” McDermott said. “But he is so authentic, so down-to-earth, so relatable. I think that’s really the connection and the cool piece about Josh is because he is who he is.”

Allen is looking to add the second-most important ring to his collection this season as the Bills are favored to win the Super Bowl.

How many NFL players wear their wedding rings on the field?

Typically, NFL players don’t wear rings on the field. They can get caught in pads and de-glove fingers, literally ripping the skin and flesh from the bone. There have been a few exceptions and as far as I can tell, all have been quarterbacks.

Ryan Fitzpatrick famously wore one with the Bills, but Andy Dalton, Kirk Cousins, and Derek Carr have also worn them on the field. Aaron Rodgers was seen sporting one at Steelers minicamp this week after recently getting married himself.

When players wear rings on the field, in order to limit the injury concerns, they are typically made of silicone. That’s what we saw on Allen and Rodgers this week, but Fitzpatrick wore his gold ring when he played. Carr used a rolled up piece of tape on the field.
