Buffalo Rumblings
Late in the second quarter, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen was injured on a sack at the goal line. He walked off the field gingerly and eventually walked to the locker room with no shoe as time expired in the half. After the sack, he was seen moving his foot back and forth, clearly working through something.
The Bills announced during halftime that QB1 had a foot X-ray and Allen was cleared to return.
Allen jogged out at halftime. On the first drive, Allen dropped back twice and looked okay, but the Bills went with quick-hitters and punted. He looked okay on the play-action pass. On the second drive, he was able to roll out to his right to evade pressure and didn’t look any worse for the wear.
The Bills probably shouldn’t call too many designed runs, but it appears that disaster was averted for now.
On 2nd and 1 at their own 22, Allen took the snap. With the pocket pushed, he started fading backwards, then turned and ran. He kept retreating, eventually turning back to the middle of the field. As he was inside the tackle box, he was unable to throw away the ball without a penalty. As he was falling to the ground, he went to his knee. He was able to keep the ball out of the end zone, and Buffalo was able to punt it after Allen completed a tush push to generate a little room.
At the end of this clip, you can see him working the right ankle and foot.
Allen was attended to by several team trainers, and eventually walked to the locker room without his right shoe on with three seconds left.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the trainers were working on Allen’s knee, but that appears to not be the case.
The Bills’ backup quarterback is Mitch Trubisky, a former top draft pick with lots of experience in the NFL.
Josh Allen’s injury history is not very extensive, at least not in terms of him missing games. He has started every game since his rookie season when he dealt with a concussion and a throwing arm injury.
In Week 12 of this season, Allen came up shaking his hand after a tackle against the Houston Texans. He didn’t miss a play.
In September 2025, Allen’s helmet was knocked into his nose on a rushing attempt and he left the field for a play with his nose gushing blood. It was never confirmed if he broke it or not, but he had a nice shiner and wore a visor for a few weeks.
He told the CBS crew he enjoys feeling pain because “some day he won’t.” Very dark.
