That disappointing look on Josh Allen’s face said a lot after the loss to the Chiefs.
We know Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen is really good and that’s he’s played some of his best football in the playoffs.
He’s played in 13 NFL Playoff games, with a combined completion percentage of 65.7%, 25 touchdowns, and four interceptions and he has averaged 258.4 yards per game through the air. On the ground, he has chipped in 668 yards and seven touchdowns at a total of 51 yards per game. He also has a receiving touchdown to boot.
The stats are there and at least some of the wins are there, with at least one victory in five straight seasons. But that leads us to a pretty terrible stat.
Josh Allen’s 13 career NFL Playoff starts are the most ever by a QB without making it to at least one Super Bowl. In order for Allen to make the Super Bowl, that number is only going to grow in 2025 and beyond.
For reference, Hall of Famer Kurt Warner only played 13 playoff games in his entire career. Eli Manning and Bob Griese played in 12. All appeared in multiple Super Bowls, each winning at least one Lombardi.
Phillip Rivers previously held the NFL record for most playoff starts without ever reaching a Super Bowl at 12. Danny White and Warren Moon have 10 starts and Mark Brunell started 10 games and never made it to the Super Bowl as a starter before winning a ring as the New Orleans Saints backup to Drew Brees. Dave Krieg and Randall Cunningham have nine career playoff starts but never reached the Super Bowl.
Per Pro Football Network, only three quarterbacks have started double-digit playoff games prior to making their first Super Bowl:
Allen will need to reach at least 15 starts in the playoffs before heading to the Super Bowl, so one way or the other, he’s going to hold one of the two records.
