Jordyn Brooks wins AFC Defensive Player of the Week award for Week 8

Just yesterday, Miami Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks was named my MVP (Most Valuable ‘Phin) for his week eight performance against the Atlanta Falcons. In that game, Brooks had 10 tackles, 3 tackles for loss and a sack of Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Today, the NFL confirmed that my selection was a solid one by officially naming Jordyn Brooks the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his stellar outing against Atlanta — his first time being selected for this honor during his 5 1/2 year career.

More impressive than just leading the Miami Dolphins in tackles, Brooks leads all defenders in the National Football League in overall tackles (85) and solo tackles as well (53) thus far this season. His 2.5 sacks through eight games also has the linebacker on pace to surpass his previous single season best of 4.5 sacks during his 2023 season with the Seattle Seahawks.

If Brooks continues to stockpile impressive counting statistics and the Dolphins can somehow find a way to win games more consistently, Brooks could find himself in this year’s Pro Bowl game for the first time in his career, although many would argue that he should have been named an NFL all-star multiple times over in his short, but productive time as a professional.
