According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, Jordan Love told the press on Wednesday that he expects that rookie first-round pick Matthew Golden will receive more looks now that slot receiver Jayden Reed is out of the rotation due to collarbone and foot surgeries. When Reed dropped out of action last week, Golden played 20 slot snaps to Dontayvion Wicks’ 18, the only two receivers to record more than 7 snaps as a slot receiver for the Packers against the Washington Commanders.

Per Schneidman, here’s what Love had to say about the receiver rotation:

“There’s definitely gonna be opps for other guys, but definitely M.G.”

Despite having a breakout training camp and preseason, Golden hasn’t been able to capture lightning in a bottle yet in the regular season. Through two games, he’s received four targets, which have turned into two receptions for 16 yards. So far, Golden has more yards on rushes and punt returns (24) than receiving.

Love also explained on Wednesday how close he was to connecting on deep throws to Golden last Thursday, as he missed Golden down the field by less than a yard twice:

Later on in his press availability, Love stated that he feels much more comfortable using his legs this year. When pressed about whether he would have tucked and run last year, when he dealt with MCL and groin injuries, like he did against the Commanders last week, Love replied, “It probably wouldn’t even be something I would try, honestly.”

In other position injury news about the quarterback, Love was seen practicing without a brace on his left hand on Wednesday. Up to that point, Love had had his left hand protected by some sort of brace ever since he injured his thumb, which required UCL surgery, in Week 1 of the preseason.
