Johnny Manziel is just a guy now, having come off one of the most promising career trajectories to flame out in the NFL.

The former quarterback began his football journey at Kerrville, Texas, starring for Tivy High School, where he passed for over 7,500 yards and 75 touchdowns, earning national praise.

He stepped up to college football at Texas A&M, where he would shoot up into celebrity, earning the nickname “Johnny Football” and becoming the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy, leading the Aggies to an 11-2 record in their SEC debut.

Manziel threw for 3,706 yards and 24 touchdowns, gaining an additional 1,400 yards on the ground.

The Cleveland Browns selected him as the 22nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft following a sophomore year in which he recorded 4,114 passing yards and 37 touchdowns.

Johnny Manziel Reveals Who He Is Now

Manziel’s NFL career was as dramatic as it was short-lived. He played just two seasons, starting eight games, going 2-6. Off-field issues such as wild partying, a domestic violence investigation, and missed practices assisted his quick exit.

Manziel recently appeared in a street interview in which he claimed he’s “just a guy.”

“I was a football player at one point in time… I’m just a guy now,” he said.

The former signal-caller would reveal having watched zero film while with the Browns, also confessing to drug use and suicidal thoughts after things went south.

Despite the above, Manziel remains a popular figure. But he definitely has regrets following his early burnout and squandered opportunities.
