Joe Buck had to cover up a nasty black eye so he could work on Saturday night.

The ESPN announcer took his spot alongside partner Troy Aikman to call the Seahawks-49ers game. It wasn’t Monday night, but they were still needed, given what was at stake.

Buck has since disclosed that he was sporting a black eye the whole time. He took to X shortly after the game to show it off, praising ESPN’s makeup artist.

The 56-year-old revealed having taken a knee to the eye while trying to break up a fight between his seven-year-old twins.

“Not all heroes wear capes, but some bring them to work,” he wrote. “Our makeup artiste, the great Kathleen Vybihal hid this from high def cameras tonight. Nothing like a knee to the eye while breaking up a fight between 7 year old twins 48 hours before a big game!!! He got me!!”

“As a father of twins and having broken up many fights, I’d ask what defense were you in prior to the fight? With twins, it’s always zone. Never man,” another advised.

Still appears he was in better shape than Brock Purdy following the quarterback’s gruesome injury vs. Seattle.

Buck will hope he’s never put in that position again. While he’d have no problem calling a fight, he’s clearly not good at breaking them up.
