The Las Vegas Raiders weren’t happy with the ESPN broadcast for showing minority owner Tom Brady in the team’s coaches’ box, according to Monday Night Football play-by-play announcer Joe Buck. Buck made the revelation on Ryan Clark’s The Pivot podcast.
During the Las Vegas Raiders’ Monday Night Football game against the Los Angeles Chargers on September 15, the ESPN broadcast showed images of Tom Brady — a minority owner of the Raiders and lead NFL announcer for Fox Sports — in the coaches’ box with the rest of the Raiders’ staff, suggesting some level of involvement.
The moment became immediately controversial, as NFL fans began wondering if Brady is feeding the information he’s learning in his duties as Fox Sports’ announcer to the Raiders’ staff — particularly as it related to one of their upcoming opponents, the Chicago Bears, as Brady had an assignment covering them prior to the pair’s game.
While appearing on The Pivot, veteran broadcast Joe Buck revealed that the Raiders were naturally unhappy about ESPN showing Brady in the coaches’ box.
“The last person I’m telling what to do is Tom Brady,” Buck said. “But yeah, I thought the visibility – and I know they weren’t happy that that got out, but he’s in a booth with a headset on. I mean, we’re all at least smart enough to know there are cameras everywhere. And they’re gonna find you. Cameras found him and then it became a big thing and then just like everything else in the world, it goes away five seconds later.”
“That seemed a little too public to me.The headset with the Raiders. But I think the production meeting stuff is much ado about nothing,” Buck added.
