Is Baylon Spector’s time in a Bills’ uniform limited?
Joe Andreessen continues to impress in his second training camp with the Buffalo Bills, earning consistent reps with the second-team defense. The undrafted rookie free agent from 2024 made last year’s roster primarily on special teams, but his role could expand in 2025.
Andreessen’s growth was evident during minicamp. Now, his increased snaps early during training camp suggest the Bills are open to shifting their linebacker depth chart. The biggest impact of the shift may be on Baylon Spector, who has struggled to stay healthy. Spector’s inability to remain on the field opens the door for Andreessen to solidify himself as the backup to starting middle linebacker Terrel Bernard.
With second-year linebacker Edefuan Ulofoshio also in the mix for a depth role, it appears the competition for the final linebacker roster spots could come down to Ulofoshio and Andreessen’s performance on special teams.
Currently Matt Milano, Terrel Bernard, and Dorian Williams, are viewed as locks for the 53-man roster, with Joe Andreessen and Edefuan Ulofoshio as the probable final pair. If the Bills’ decide to keep six at the position, they will likely lean towards Shaq Thompson if he performs well. That’s due to his connection with McDermott, and his veteran leadership — and what he could bring at least for the first six weeks of the season.
Andreessen, a local product and fan favorite, has strong support from Bills Mafia. If his camp momentum carries over into preseason play, he has a legitimate chance to lock down a roster spot once again — and potentially take on a bigger defensive role in 2025.
