A note for current and future internet trolls: Do not come at former NFL defensive end JJ Watt under any circumstances.
JJ Watt spent 12 years terrifying opposing offensive linemen and quarterbacks in the NFL, racking up 114.5 sacks, 27 forced fumbles and 70 pass breakups in his career. Watt won three Defensive Player of the Year Awards over a four-year span (2012, 2014 and 2015), one of three players to do so (along with Lawrence Taylor and Aaron Donald).
Watt will head to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2028, alongside Tom Brady. The only thing missing on Watt’s special resume, of course, is a Super Bowl championship ring.
On Thursday morning, JJ Watt sent out an X/Twitter post to give his take on the importance of NFL training camp. A user questioned Watt’s “you’re supposed to fail” line and asked if it’s why he never won a championship:
Training Camp “stats” are insane and ridiculous.
Used to think it was always just people joking, but now seeing them seriously reported.
You have no idea what the purpose of that period is, what the goals are, what the context is, etc.
It could be a strictly 3rd & Long…

Agree with most of your take but “you’re supposed to fail.” That’s a terrible mindset, guess that’s why you never won a Super Bowl 🤣🤷♂️

Let’s just say JJ Watt’s comebacks are almost as vicious as the hits he delivered on quarterbacks during his career:
Guess that’s why you have a cartoon picture of yourself as a major league ball player instead of a real one. 🤣🤷🏼♂️

Watt went to the postseason six times in his career; five times with the Houston Texans and once with the Arizona Cardinals. Unfortunately, he missed the Texans’ 2016 playoff run with an injury.
Mostly held back by lackluster quarterback play and questionable coaching, JJ Watt-led teams never advanced past the Divisional Round.
After retiring from football, Watt was hired as an NFL studio analyst by CBS Sports. The five-time Pro Bowler worked as a color analyst for the Kansas City Chiefs-Pittsburgh Steelers Christmas Day game last season.
The 2025 NFL season kicks off on Sept. 4, though CBS’ first slate of games will air on Sept. 7. The network has four games in the early afternoon 1:00 p.m. EST slot: Miami Dolphins at Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders at New England Patriots, Arizona Cardinals at New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers at New York Jets.
