The head coach announces there will be no change.

Jets head coach Jeff Ulbrich announced that Aaron Rodgers will remain the team’s starting quarterback in Week 14 when the Jets face the Miami Dolphins.

The decision comes the day after the Jets lost to the Seattle Seahawks to drop to 3-9 on the season.

Rodgers struggled in the loss, completing 21 of 39 passes for only 185 yards. Today is Rodgers’ 41st birthday. This season has been the worst of his career. He is posting a career low completion percentage, yards per attempt, and passer rating. It doesn’t seem like he is capable of playing at a high level at this point.

A change is largely irrelevant. This would be a different story had the Jets selected a quarterback in the early rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft. This would be an ideal time to get that player some reps in a low pressure environment. The Jets drafted Jordan Travis in the fifth round. Travis is currently inactive as he recaps from the injury that ended his college career, and might not be healthy enough to see the field in 2024.

The only alternative right now is Tyrod Taylor, a 35 year old journeyman backup who hasn’t been a full-time starter in the NFL in seven years. There isn’t much gained by sticking with Rodgers, but there isn’t much gained by making a change either. It’s unlikely Taylor could lift the team, and even if he could the Jets are out the race.

It has become a countdown to the end of the season.
