Jets head coach Aaron Glenn announced that the Jets will hold two joint training camp practices with the Giants the week the teams meet in a preseason game. Both teams will host a practice at their respective facilities.

It feels like these joint practices have become more and more frequent in recent years across the league. Teams are reluctant to play their starters in exhibition games. Joint practices are an opportunity to get players a chance to complete against other teams in a more controlled environment. The quarterback can wear the non-contact jersey. Coaches can seek out specific matchups easier than in a preseason game. You can never entirely eliminate the risk. After all, the Jets lost Carl Lawson to an injury in a 2021 joint practice with the Packers. Still, it gives the teams more control over circumstances.

I also get the sense the players like the joint practices. Training camp is a long stretch of monotony. You go against the same teammates every day in practice. Practicing against another team is change of pace and provides a new opponent.
