In the New York Jets’ 16th game of the 2025 season, on a dreary December day in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the Jets lost to the New England Patriots, 42 – 10, for their 13th loss of the season and their sixth loss in the last seven games.
The first half saw the Jets not show up. The Patriots moved the ball at will on offense. They scored a touchdown every time they touched the ball. Meanwhile the Jets put together an impressive display of the Grunt and Punt offense, finishing the half with less than 90 total yards. It was as thorough a beating as you will ever see in the NFL as the Patriots cruised to an insurmountable 35 – 3 halftime lead. The rest of the game would be extended garbage time.
The Jets started on offense in the third quarter. They proceeded to get a first down on an impressive tight window throw by punter Austin McNamara on a fake punt play before they eventually turned the ball over on downs. The Patriots offense took over in Jets territory and proceeded to score their sixth touchdown on six possessions on Drake Maye’s fifth touchdown pass of the game. The score was 42 – 3, Patriots early in the third quarter. With the Jets down just 39 points it was still anybody’s ball game.
Drake Maye called it a day after that drive and Joshua Dobbs replaced him under center. Dobbs moved the Patriots into scoring position on his first drive, but the Patriots doinked a field goal try as the Patriots failed to score for the first time in the game. The doink was the Jets highlight of the game.
On the first play of the fourth quarter Breece Hall topped the doink when he took a handoff and rambled 59 yards for a touchdown, making the score 42 – 10, Patriots.
Neither team scored after that. Final score: Patriots 42, Jets 10.
The Jets drop to 3-13 on the season. Next week this abomination of a Jets season mercifully ends when they go on the road to play the Buffalo Bills.
