The first half of the New York Jets game against the Carolina Panthers is in the books, and the Jets are trailing the Panthers, 10 – 3.
The game opened with the Jets on offense. A nice kickoff return got the Jets great field position on their own 45 yard line to start the game. The Jets got the ball into field goal range before going for it and failing on a fourth and five, turning the ball over on downs and squandering an early scoring opportunity.
The Panthers got the ball and quickly went down the field before settling for a short field goal and an early 3 – 0 Panthers lead.
The first quarter ended with the score still 3 – 0 and the Panthers driving near midfield. The Panthers went for it on fourth and 1 and the Jets defense stonewalled them.
The Jets offense took over at midfield and put together a short drive before Justin Fields was knocked out of the game on a late hit by the Panthers. Tyrod Taylor finished the drive as the Jets settled for a short field goal to tie the game at 3 – 3.
Late in the second quarter the Jets punted from their own end zone, giving the Panthers great field position at their own 48 yard line. They proceeded to put together a short drive culminating in a Bryce Young to Xavier Legette touchdown pass and a 10 – 3 Panthers lead with a little more than a minute left in the first half.
The Jets closed the half with a drive to nowhere, ending fittingly with a sack of Justin Fields. For the sixth straight game the Jets failed to score a touchdown in the first half. Are we having fun yet?
We go into the second half with the Jets trailing the Panthers 10 – 3.
