The first half of the New York Jets game against the Jacksonville Jaguars is in the books, and the Jets are trailing the Jaguars, 31 – 10.
The game opened with the Jets on defense. It didn’t go well. The Jaguars took less than five minutes to march down the field and score on a touchdown pass to Brian Thomas, taking an early 7 – 0 lead.
The Jets took over on offense. It did not go well. Breece Hall was tripped up in the backfield on fourth down as the Jets turned the ball over on downs in their own territory. A few plays later Trevor Lawrence ran the ball in for a touchdown and a 14 – 0 Jaguars lead less than nine minutes into the game.
The Jets struck back on their next possession as Brady Cook led an impressive Jets drive ending in a touchdown pass to Adonai Mitchell. That cut the Jaguars lead to 14 – 7 late in an action packed first quarter.
As the first quarter ended the Jaguars were driving deep in Jets territory. The Jets were thus far unable to even slow down the Jaguars offense. 46 seconds into the second quarter Trevor Lawrence found Bhayshul Tuten in the end zone for a touchdown and a 21 – 7 lead as this game threatened to get out of hand by halftime.
The Jets and Jaguars exchanged short field goal drives to make the score 24 – 10 in favor of the Jaguars with less than two minutes left in the first half. Brady Cook then threw an interception in Jets territory, giving the Jaguars another scoring opportunity before the end of the half. With 21 seconds left Trevor Lawrence hit Travis Etienne for a touchdown, giving the Jaguars a 31 – 10 lead going into the locker room and effectively turning the second half into extended garbage time.
