The first half of the New York Jets game against the Miami Dolphins is in the books, and the Jets are getting crushed by the Dolphins, 24 – 7.
The game opened with the Jets on defense. They looked completely unready. It took the Dolphins just over two minutes to march right down the field on a touchdown drive highlighted by some horrific Jets tackling efforts. The Dolphins jumped out to an early 7 – 0 lead.
The Jets offense responded with a quick three and out. A couple of minutes later the Dolphins scored again on a drive where they picked up huge chunks of yardage on virtually every play. The Jets looked completely lost as they were down two touchdowns before some fans had even found their seats.
On the next Jets possession Tyrod Taylor threw an interception and the Dolphins had the ball deep in Jets territory as the game threatened to spiral out of reach before the first quarter was over. A few plays later Jaylen Wright ran the ball in for the third Dolphins touchdown in the first 12 minutes of the game. At this point the game was all but over. What holiday season fun for the Gang Green faithful!
On the next Jets possession Tyrod Taylor came out of the game with a groin injury. Undrafted rookie Brady Cook replaced Taylor and led another scintillating three and out for the Jets.
With less than a minute remaining in the first quarter the Jets special teams struck. Isaiah Williams returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown to make the score 21 – 7 in favor of the Dolphins as the first quarter drew to a close.
Early in the second quarter Azareye’h Thomas went down with an injury. He was the third Jets 2025 draft pick to exit with an injury in the game, following Tyler Baron and Francisco Mauioga.
Late in the second quarter the Dolphins embarked on a drive that culminated in a field goal and a 24 – 7 Dolphins lead with just under two minutes left in the half.
With 1:47 left in the half Brady Cook connected on a short catch and run to John Metchie for a first down. It was the first Jets first down in the game. A long Dolphins pass interference penalty put the Jets in scoring position with a first down inside the Dolphins 20 yard line. Unfortunately, Brady Cook was then intercepted. The first half ended a few plays later with the Dolphins up 24 – 7.
