In the New York Jets’ ninth game of the 2025 season, on a cool, rainy autumn afternoon in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the Jets beat the Cleveland Browns, 27 – 20.

The first half saw the Jets special teams take center stage. Isaiah Williams returned a punt for a touchdown and Nene Nwangwu returned a kickoff for a touchdown, providing the Jets 14 of their 17 first half points. Justin Fields and the Jets offense struggled badly against a tough Browns defense, and the Jets defense allowed 17 points to a terrible Browns offense on the way to a 17 – 17 tie at halftime.

Neither team could get anything going on offense in an ugly third quarter. The score remained tied at 17 – 17.

The fourth quarter opened with the Jets moving the ball into Browns territory behind the running of Breece Hall. On the second play of the fourth quarter Justin Fields found Hall on a 42 yard catch and run for a touchdown and a 24 – 17 Jets lead.

On the Jets’ next possession Breece Hall ripped off a big run to get the Jets in field goal range, and Nick Folk eventually kicked a mid-range field goal to give the Jets a two-score lead at 27 – 17 with a little more than six minutes left in the game. Now the Jets defense just needed to avoid a collapse to get the Jets their second consecutive victory.

The Browns put together a drive behind the running of Dillon Gabriel that ended in a field goal with three minutes left in the game, bringing the score to Jets 27, Browns 20. The Jets then ran out the clock, with the help of two dumb penalties by the Browns giving the Jets critical first downs on their final drive.

Final score: Jets 27, Browns 20.

The Jets get their second consecutive win after starting the season with seven straight losses to bring their record to 2-7. Now the Jets go on the road on a short week for a prime-time showdown with the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football.
