The first half of the New York Jets game against the Denver Broncos is in the books, and the Jets are trailing the Broncos, 10 – 6.
The game opened with the Jets on defense. They quickly got their first turnover of the season as Denver fumbled and the Jets recovered inside the Broncos 40 yard line. Unfortunately the Jets went nowhere on offense and had to settle for a long field goal and a 3 – 0 early lead.
The Broncos responded with a short drive and a long field goal to tie the score at 3 – 3 midway through the first quarter.
On the ensuing kickoff Kene Nwangwu ripped off a 72 yard return, giving the Jets the ball inside the Broncos 25 yard line. Once again, the Jets offense went nowhere and had to settle for a field goal and a 6 -3 lead. At this point the Jets had less than 10 yards of offense and yet had scored twice.
As the first quarter drew to a close the Broncos put together a long drive culminating in a Bo Nix touchdown pass to Nate Adkins t0 give the Broncos their first lead of the game at 10 – 6.
Midway through the second quarter the Jets offense had one total yard and had yet to produce a first down. Things were not going well.
With a little more than two minutes left in the first half the Jets finally got a first down on a completion to Josh Reynolds. The Jets offense was getting completely dominated by the Broncos defense, yet they still had a chance to take the lead late in the half. Alas, it was not to be. The Jets put together a confused, disjointed drive lacking any urgency as they ran out the clock on the first half.
We go into the second half with the Jets trailing the Broncos 10 – 6 as they go another first half without scoring a touchdown. They’re lucky to be that close.
