The Seattle Seahawks have burst out the gate of the 2025 season, tied for first atop the NFC West with the Los Angeles Rams at 3-1 with a Week 5 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers looming.

A big piece of the success of the season for Seattle thus far has been the presence of several Kansas Jayhawks on the roster, after fielding a roster void of Jayhawks for several years. Those with ties to Kansas include offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, as well as offensive linemen Bryce Cabeldue and Logan Brown.

However, on Wednesday the team lost one of its former Kansas products, when Khalil Herbert terminated his practice squad contract, leading Seattle to sign former University of Washington running back Myles Gaskin. Thursday a report from ESPN insider Adam Schefter shed some light on the reason behind that move.

So, it’s off to the Big Apple for Herbert to join the New York Jets, where he’ll presumably be buried on the depth chart and not see much playing time, just like another former Seahawk currently in New York, Russell Wilson.

And now it’s on to the Buccaneers on Sunday in Week 5.
