The New York Jets have made a change at kicker, signing veteran Jason Sanders after releasing Younghoe Koo, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Schefter reported the move Wednesday on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Jets signed veteran K Jason Sanders and waived veteran K Younghoe Koo.”

The transaction adds an experienced specialist to the Jets’ roster as the team continues preparations for the 2026 season. Sanders arrives in New York after spending time with the New York Giants, who released him Tuesday to create roster space for wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.

A veteran of multiple NFL seasons, Sanders brings a proven track record and extensive experience in pressure situations. His addition gives the Jets stability at a position that plays a critical role in close games and special teams execution.

The move also marks the end of Koo’s brief stint with the organization. The veteran kicker entered the offseason competing for a roster spot but was ultimately waived as the Jets opted to move forward with Sanders.

Jason Sanders joins Jets as team continues OTA preparations

The Jets are in the midst of organized team activities as they continue evaluating the roster under game-like practice conditions. The team is scheduled to hold additional OTA sessions on June 4 and June 8-11 before transitioning to mandatory minicamp from June 16-18.

Those practices will provide Sanders with an opportunity to familiarize himself with the Jets’ special teams unit and begin building chemistry with holder and long snapper responsibilities ahead of training camp.

New York is looking to improve after a disappointing 2025 season and has continued to make adjustments across the roster throughout the offseason. The addition of Sanders represents another move aimed at strengthening depth and competition heading into the fall.

The Jets will open the 2026 regular season on the road against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 13. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on CBS as New York begins its campaign with a fresh roster and several new faces in key roles.
