The New York Jets have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Mark Robinson, the team announced on Tuesday.
Robinson, a seventh-round pick of the Steelers in 2022, spent the first three seasons of his career in Pittsburgh before he was released at the end of training camp this August.
Robinson quickly caught on with the New England Patriots, where he was signed to the practice squad on Aug. 29. Robinson played in each of the first three weeks as a practice squad elevation for New England, including in Week 3 against the Steelers.
Through three games, he appeared in 37 snaps, all on special teams, playing half of New England’s special teams snaps and working on five different special teams phases. He recorded three tackles in his three-week stint in New England.
With Robinson reaching the maximum of three practice squad elevations, the Patriots had to decide whether to promote him to the 53-man roster or be unable to use him for the remainder of the 2025 season. Despite an empty spot on their roster, the Pats declined to promote Robinson, and allowed him to be signed away by the Jets.
In New York, he will join a linebackers room that is dealing with significant injury losses, as the Jets placed linebackers Quincy Williams and Marcelino McCrary-Ball on injured reserve on Tuesday.
Over three seasons in Pittsburgh, Robinson appeared in 38 career games, recording four starts, 45 tackles, and three forced fumbles.
Drafted out of Ole Miss, Robinson started his collegiate career as a running back at Presbyterian before transferring to Southeast Missouri and then spent one season at Ole Miss, where he racked up 90 tackles, nine tackles for a loss and three sacks.
The Steelers replaced Robinson on their roster this season with Carson Bruener, a seventh-round pick out of Washington from the 2025 NFL Draft.
