The New England Patriots handed the New York Jets a 27-14 defeat on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 11 of the 2025 NFL campaign. As a result of this loss, it sounds like the Jets have decided to make a major change on offense.
While New York kept things closer than expected, New England was never truly threatened in this one. That was thanks in large part to an abysmal passing attack led by former first-round quarterback Justin Fields, who only managed to pick up 105 yards in the air against the Pats’ defense.
After getting signed to a two-year, $40 million contract in free agency, Fields has only thrown for 1,259 yards and seven touchdowns in nine starts, which is pretty awful. As a result, New York has reportedly decided to once again turn the starting job over to its veteran backup, Tyrod Taylor.
“The Jets are making a quarterback change, benching Justin Fields in favor of veteran Tyrod Taylor, per source,” Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported. “New York faces Baltimore in Week 12 and ranks last in the league in passing yards per game.”
In three games this season, only one of which was a start, Taylor has thrown for 379 yards and three touchdowns. It’s a limited sample size, but the offense has looked much more competent during Taylor’s time under center, and if it weren’t for a lingering knee injury, this move likely would have been made sooner.
As for New England, it just keeps on trucking along, as this win over New York was its eighth-straight victory. The Patriots will look to push their win streak to nine games when they take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12.
