The New York Jets have been followed by a seemingly perpetual dark cloud ever since the day Aaron Rodgers came to town. But with the hiring of Aaron Glenn as their next head coach, that storm appears to finally be breaking.

While the New York Jets have a long road to ending their 14-year-long playoff drought, the longest in the four major American sports leagues, the decision to hire Aaron Glenn seems to be a step in the right direction, at least as far as the players are concerned.

In the wake of Glenn’s hiring, multiple Jets players, such as running backs Braelon Allen and Michael Carter, cornerback DJ Reed, and linebacker Jermaine Johnson all took to social media to express their excitement over Glenn’s hiring.

Former New York Jets offensive lineman Damien Woody also added in a tweet of his own that he “can’t tell you how many former Jets players are pumped for AG getting this gig.”

In a recent article for the New York Post, Jets beat writer Brian Costello detailed how Glenn has already brought “hope” back to the infamously moribund franchise after the “malaise” that set in following Aaron Rodgers’ Achilles tear in September 2023.

“I’m not sure Robert Saleh’s Jets ever really recovered from that moment. There were brief moments of belief last summer in training camp, but there was this unshakeable feeling that 2023 was the Jets’ shot at doing something special and it vanished with Rodgers’ injury,” Costello wrote.

“Flash forward to 2024 and the Jets never felt right. Again, there were some flickers of optimism on a Thursday night when they beat up the Patriots, but it never felt like it really returned to where it was entering that 2023 season. Soon, Saleh and Joe Douglas were fired and the rudderless Jets seemed to invent new ways to lose every week. Along the way, stories about the team’s dysfunction only added to the depression that engulfed the team.”

With Glenn’s hiring, Costello says that “hope” is now back inside the Jets building for the first time since then. Let’s see what the mood is after they figure out — or don’t figure out — their quarterback situation. According to early reports, Glenn reportedly wants to keep the controversial 41-year-old future Hall of Fame QB next season.
