Jets Not Expected To Bid Highly On QB Brendan Sorsby

With the drama concerning NCAA eligibility now behind former Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby, the focus has shifted to the supplemental draft. Though interest in the troubled passer is reportedly quite high, one team known for their struggles at the quarterback position is not expected to be interested in the Hoosier and Bearcat transfer, .

According to Brian Costello of New York Post Sports, it seems that if the Jets put a bid in for Sorsby at all in supplemental draft, it would only be a late-round flyer, just in case no other teams decide to bid on the college arm. The opinion conflicts with other recent reports that the Jets are expected to pursue Sorsby. In Costello’s opinion, the addition of Sorsby would invite, along with him, the circus of his legal situation and his reported addiction, and the media attention and drama that would result from that is not something head coach Aaron Glenn wants in the building.

Glenn has already attempted to outmaneuver any rumored quarterback controversies after trading for the former Raiders quarterback Geno Smith and subsequently naming him the team’s starter without any need for a competition. The addition wasn’t necessarily meant to place Smith as the team’s future at the position but instead set him as an experienced veteran who will keep the club afloat until the arrival of an heir apparent.

The Jets appear set to address the position more seriously in 2027. In the meantime, Smith will serve as the starting passer, and if New York is going to see any young arm get some exploratory reps, that arm is already in the building in the form of fourth-round Clemson rookie Cade Klubnik, who at one time was a projected first-round pick and still holds plenty of potential. Per Costello, the plan for 2027 seems the clear path forward for Gang Green, and throwing that all away for Sorsby and all that comes with him would be too high a price to pay.
