Nagy has led the top college all-star game since 2018
The Jets have interviewed Jim Nagy, the executive director of the Senior Bowl for their vacant general manager job.
The Senior Bowl is considered the most prestigious college all-star game, and Nagy has overseen the game since 2018. This followed an 18 year run working as an NFL scout.
As the top executive in a college all-star game, Nagy would bring an interesting skillset to the job. Obviously the players in the Senior Bowl change every year. However, the relationships Nagy has built with college coaching staffs in filling out the game’s rosters annually are as strong as a candidate could have. A lot of scouting success comes from these relationships.
There are some things that film and statistics don’t show, such as a player’s love of the game and his willingness to play injured even when it hurts his production, along with behind the scenes aspects of evaluations. These are evaluations that have frequently plagued the Jets both in their college scouting and on their pro personnel side (free agent signings, trades, etc.) most notably recently with Haason Reddick.
Since the Senior Bowl attracts such a large percentage of top prospects for the NFL Draft, Nagy has presumably built relationships with college scouts and executive across the league, which would likely aid him building a front office.
Nagy is the fourth known candidate for the job after former Titans general manager Jon Robinson, former Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff, and ESPN analyst Louis Riddick.
