The Patriots’ division rivals have filled their biggest holes.
The New England Patriots are not the only team in the AFC East hiring a new head coach this offseason. The New York Jets are in the same boat, and on Thursday filled their vacancy: Aaron Glenn, former defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, is headed to the Big Apple.
Glenn, who earlier this month declined an opportunity to interview for the Patriots’ head coaching job that ultimately went to Mike Vrabel, is no stranger to the Jets organization. The 52-year-old was selected by the team in the first round of the 1994 NFL Draft and in 2003 was voted to its Four Decade Team.
Glenn later re-joined the team as a scout, before going into coaching. He started out in Cleveland and New Orleans before taking over as Lions DC in 2021. After three seasons at the job, he will be back with the Jets for a third time.
In addition to Glenn, the team also hired a new general manager. Darren Mougey, who previously served as the Denver Broncos’ assistant GM, was hired on Saturday. Mougey spent the last 13 years in Denver, working various administrative and executive roles.
